As an animator, this is really helpful to analyze motion in animated and live action films. As other people have mentioned, it does change your file defaults, but a quick Google told me how to find those settings and change them back within minutes, so it's not that troublesome. If you're not sure if this program would be good for you, I suggest getting the 30-day trial from Cyberlink's site.

And the TruTheater HD and lighting settings really work! I almost considered not getting the Blu-ray player because it made my DVDs look so good! Another plus for me (and the reason why I've loved PowerDVD since the beginning) is that you can frame forward and backwards through your movies. The program plays DVDs and Blu-rays without any problems, and works perfectly with my Pioneer external Blu-ray player. I particularly picked this version because I wanted to watch Blu-rays. But it hasn't been bundled with any computer that I have gotten since then, so I finally decided to buy it. I've loved PowerDVD since I first got it free on a laptop many years ago.

Windows 95, ME, Vista, 8) for many things (which BTW, you can make it play all sorts of media, including the RealPlayer virus video files (yes, I call it a virus because it literally takes over your entire system and puts itself back into your Windows Start menu in MSConfig even though you take it out), phone files etc.). I wanted to keep Windows Media Player (using Windows 7, because I hate Windows 8 - since if you've noticed every other version of Windows/MS Office sucks - i.e. I highlighted the little sucker and clicked End Process. So I had to settle for PowerDVD.So here's what I did to prevent PowerDVD from taking over my system: I installed PowerDVD, and when I got to the part where it wanted to take over my system and be the default player for everything (it didn't give an option other than NEXT), I right-click on my Windows System Tray and located PowerDVD in the Processes tab.

Just goes to show that CyberLink isn't the monster that some reviewers have made it out to be.Other things I've noticed that I like:-Being able to access the main Blu-ray menu while the video is playing-A nice list of shortcut keys in the help menuFeatures I would like that PowerDVD 14 doesn't have:-Indication of chapter divisions on the seek bar. No complaints yet, I will try to update if there are. The update downloaded and installed fine and I was able to play a Blu-ray that was released last month. It took me to a page advertising for PowerDVD 15 prominently, but I noticed you can get the actual update by selecting a less prominent link above the advertisement. I was prompted to update on the first run of the application.

After the install I went through and configured and explored all the other settings and changed things like directories and cleaned up the interface. (I also recommending just copying and running the main setup file from the install disc and ignoring all the other stuff on there). As long as you carefully go through the installation process, exploring all options, you should be fine. Easy to go through and configure all the settings that I want. PowerDVD fits in well for playing BluRays. I'm currently use VLC, KMPlayer, and Windows Media Center depending on content. Don't let older reviews mislead you and take them with a grain of salt.
